Museum of The Bible brings Gutenberg Gates to D.C. before grand opening
WASHINGTON (ABC7) — In anticipation for the grand opening of Museum of The Bible in Washington, D.C., a replica of The Gutenberg Gates will be displayed on The National Mall from November 10 to 12.
The wooden replica of the gates will conclude their five-city tour by being stationed less than 400 yards from the Washington Monument.
The real Gutenberg Gates will serve as the 40′ tall bronze entryway into the new museum.
The panels are said to be the largest of their kind in the world.
Inscribed on the gates are the the passages of Genesis 1:1-31 in Latin, as found in the Gutenberg Bible.
Museum of The Bible says that their exhibits serve to showcase the history, narrative, and impact the Bible has had on the world.
The museum’s six floors contain research laboratories, permanent and temporary exhibits, Biblical Gardens, a restaurant, an enormous 500-seat theater for performances, various lecture halls, and more.
Their digital guide will allows guests to make restaurant reservations inside the museum, go on personalized tours, and navigate around the museum.
Larry Kirkland, designer of the gates, will be greeting museum guests at the grand opening of the museum on November 17.
