WASHINGTON (ABC7) — On Tuesday, Condé Nast launched their new website called them.us that is focused on the LGBTQ+ community.
After hearing about the launch, people took to Twitter to share their excitement about the new site:
Although many have applauded the company for what they say is a new safe haven website, some people said that they feel like the name of the site – “them.” – was a poor name choice.
“Them” is a gender neutral term used in the LGBTQ+ community for those who do not identify as either male or female.
However, some people said that using the term “them” is anything but inclusive.
In addition to his roles at Teen Vogue and Allure magazine, Phillip Picardi is the Chief Content officer at them. who pushed the idea of the new site.
“There is a cultural revolution happening that is — as always — spearheaded by young people who believe in fighting for equality, and we want to create a space that’s reflective of this moment,” Picardi said in a press release, “We’re excited to showcase the voices and perspectives of people in the community, and prove through our storytelling that, by celebrating them, we’re really celebrating all of us.”
Burberry, Google, Lyft and GLAAD were some of the brands that partnered with them. for their launch earlier this week.
