Twitter backlash after Billboard announces Selena Gomez “Woman of the Year”
WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Billboard awarded Selena Gomez their 2017 Woman of the Year title, and some music fanatics took to Twitter to express their disappointment of the win.
Some say Grande should have won the award due to how she handled the Manchester attack that shook the nation earlier this year while on her “Dangerous Woman” worldwide tour:
Gomez is staring in a new Woody Allen film, and during her Billboard interview she was asked if she thought about Woody’s past before signing on to the movie.
“To be honest, I’m not sure how to answer — not because I’m trying to back away from it. [The Harvey Weinstein allegations] actually happened right after I had started [on the movie],” Gomez said in response to the question. “They popped up in the midst of it. And that’s something, yes, I had to face and discuss. I stepped back and thought, “Wow, the universe works in interesting ways.”
